Happy Meal's "TMNT x Sanrio" Mobile Game
3D Animation and Motion Design
- Maya / Blender / Cinema 4D / Photoshop / After Effects / Playcanvas
For this program, I was responsible for leading 3D character art, including character modeling, texturing, rigging, and animation! I also created some 3D assets for the levels, as well as 2D motion graphic animation for the character select menu and all character collision videos. Matt Jimenez, one of the 3D artists, led level design for this program.
One of the focuses for this game is to make everything look toon and hand-drawn. So we utilized the dark stroke for all 3D assets to match the 2D design.
Below are the video demo of Hello Kitty x Leonardo showcasing the game. You would select a character, and run through each level to collect the orbs and unlock more characters!
Below are the character turnarounds. I modeled, texture, and rigged the toy characters. Their polycount are between 1900 and 2400 tris.
Hello Kitty - 1948 Tris
Cinnamoroll - 2064 Tris
My Melody - 2408 Tris
Kuromi - 1920 Tris
And these are the orbs that players would collect in the game.
Hello Kitty Orb
Cinnamoroll Orb
MyMelody Orb
Kuromi Orb
Here are the animations I made for the characters. There are idle, run, jump, turn right, turn left, stumble, shrug, and victory! I wanted the characters to have both cuteness from the Hello Kitty IP and the energy from the TMNT IP, so I animated the "ninja" run/moves and added in some cute bounces. The biggest challenge is to keep the posing clear with these big-headed and short-legged characters. I spent a lot of time on the poses. For the texture and UV, most of the models have symmetrical texture except for the parts that need their own texture, such as the eye darts and the letter on their belts. For optimization and continuity, all characters have similar animations with some slight adjustments.
